A construction worker and his fiancée say they rescued a sweating baby girl from a hot car after the child’s parents overdosed on heroin.

Eric Asher shared photos of his ordeal in Canton, Ohio on social media, provoking outrage from shocked viewers. The 43-year-old says he saw a man and a woman passed out on the ground of a parking lot as he drove past on Friday.

He then noticed a baby girl sweating in a car seat as temperatures reached 88F (31C). Mr. Asher rescued the baby from the open car and gave the child water as emergency services rushed to the scene.

‘We were driving down the road and I looked over to my right and I saw the male and female laying on the ground,’ he told InsideEdition.com. ‘We later saw that they were purple.’

‘The child was covered in sweat. We gave the baby some water – that was our priority.’ A bystander then called 911. Mr Asher said the child’s mother later rang him to thank him for saving their daughter.

She told him they were heroin addicts and had relapsed after being clean for two years, he said. The child is now being looked after by a relative.

Court records seen by MailOnline show the parents have been charged with endangering a child and released on $1,000 bonds. Mr. Asher, who runs his own construction business, posted pictures of the rescue on Facebook to raise awareness of the dangers of heroin.

He captioned the post: ‘Lord put us in the right place at the right time.’ Dozens commented on the post, many with angry remarks towards the parents. One wrote: ‘They should be stripped of their parental rights until they prove they are off drugs.’ Others praised and thanked Mr Asher for his good deed.

‘You have truly made a difference in that babies life. Again thank you for being there and not being like others and look the other direction. U are an amazing human being.’
