Osama Bin Laden’s family say the 9/11 terrorist’s youngest son, Hamza, fled to Afghanistan to avenge his father’s 2011 death, according to their interview with The Guardian on Friday.
“We thought everyone was over this,” Hassan Bin Laden, an uncle of Hamza, told The Guardian. “Then the next thing I knew, Hamza was saying, ‘I am going to avenge my father.’ I don’t want to go through that again. If Hamza was in front of me now, I would tell him, ‘God guide you. Think twice about what you are doing. Don’t retake the steps of your father. You are entering horrible parts of your soul.”
Militant Islamic extremist Hamza, 29, is officially recognized as a terrorist by the U.S. and is in a country that has been at war with the U.S. and NATO countries for almost two decades, according to Business Insider.
The Bin Laden family lives secluded in Saudi Arabia, and while they are considered prominent in status, they are still polarizing in Islam. A portion of them live under government and international intelligence agency supervision and tend to pass on press interviews and away from political discourse, according to Business Insider. The Guardian also spoke with the al-Qaeda terrorist’s mother. (RELATED: Bin Laden’s Son Makes Play To Replace ISIS As Global Terrorist Leader)
Hamza longs to replace the Islamic State’s momentum by keeping his father’s legacy alive to the Muslim world, propping him as a hero who “revised the spirit of jihad,” according to Independent.
“I invite Muslims generally to take revenge on the Americans, the murderers of the Sheikh [Bin Laden], specifically from those who participated in this heinous crime,” he said in an audio recording released by al-Qaeda, reported Independent in November 2017.
